EuPA Job Fair and Student Exchange Event

The European Proteomics Association (EuPA) is organizing an online event, called EuPA Company Job Fair and Student Exchange Event (SEE), with the aim to bring together all parties who might be interested in working in protein science after their studies or a student exchange during their studies.

Date: 2nd October 2024 3-5 PM CEST; Location: online in Proteopolis (gather.town)

You can find detailed information about the event below and on the enclosed flyer.

Participation is free of charge but participant registration via this form (https://forms.gle/zmZKoiXxjt3m2cFj7)  is mandatory.

We have a seperate registration link (https://forms.gle/7uDovC1JJEYL36fw5)  for PIs who are open to host students at their lab or who have open positions they would like to advertise.

The event is mainly split into three parts:

Panel discussion

Come and join this panel discussion organised by YPIC to learn more about working in the amazing field of protein science. During the panel discussion you will be able to get answers to job related questions and learn about companies in the field. Naturally there will be a chance to submit your own questions and just in case time runs short you will have the chance to network with participants, PIs, and company representatives after in Proteopolis EuPA’s very own gather.town map.

The Company Job Fair

This event aims to connect ECRs currently finishing their studies or already looking for a job with science companies in the field of proteomics looking to hire protein scientists. We heard that it can be difficult to find qualified people and are hoping to offer a platform to facilitate connections between qualified ECRs and companies in the field.

The interested companies will have a short (3 min) slot during the panel discussion to advertise their job openings and invite participants to come to their dedicated meeting room in gather.town. Afterwards, each company will then have a dedicated room to interact with potential candidates.

The Student Exchange Event

The representatives of hosting labs, students, and funding agencies will be invited. The idea behind this program is that currently, student exchange is funded quite well for short-term fellowships or studies e.g. through FEBS (https://www.febs.org/funding/fellowships/short-term-fellowships/) , EMBO (https://www.embo.org/funding/fellowships-grants-and-career-support/scientific-exchange-grants/) , or the Erasmus program (https://www.esn.org/erasmus) , but typically requires an already existing relationship between the hosting labs and/or the student. This implies that the system works well when some form of (initial) connection has been made but is much harder to set up, or even envision, in all other cases.

In line with the inclusivity goal of EuPA, the EuPA Executive Committee, therefore, wants to broaden the array of participants in such exchange programs and increase the number of participating students by giving them a chance to get in contact with labs that are open to hosting exchange students.

Please note that students will have to apply for funding, and the start and duration of the student exchange will be established by the agreement between the student and the hosting lab, EuPA will only provide the online meeting space where all parties can meet and discuss with each other.
