The master’s program entitled Geology of Energy Resources is primarily aimed at graduates of undergraduate specializations with a geological profile and aims to develop skills for the identification, exploration, storage and valorization of currently used geological energy resources, as well as knowledge of alternative or complementary resources. The program’s main objective is to train specialists in this field and reflects a necessity imposed, on the one hand, by the increasingly deep and frequent energy crises as well as by the sharp limitation of non-renewable energy resources and the identification of alternative resources, on the other hand. Energy crises and trends towards monopolization of existing resources implicitly lead to the need to identify new conventional and alternative resources, both for the needs of emerging or consolidated economies, and to ensure the comfort of the population. In this context, it is necessary to identify new hydrocarbon resources or to streamline extraction and increase the degree of recovery for resources already discovered. Also, in the context of the depletion of conventional energy resources, there must be increased concern for highlighting and using alternative resources (geothermal energy, radioactive energy, wind energy, solar energy, etc.).
By studying in this Master’s Programme, each student will have the opportunity to acquire significant knowledge in Seismic Interpretation, Sedimentology, Structural Geology in Hydrocarbon Exploration, Mineral Resources for Clean Energy, Energy and Environment or Non-Conventional Energy Resources. The most important aspect is to properly integrate geological, geophysical end engineering data in order to understand thoroughly the mechanisms controlling the evolution of energy resources. This Master’s Programme will offer such opportunities through an excellent team of specialists which have skilled expertise in Geosciences.
The Department of Geology at the Faculty of Biology and Geology of Babeş Bolyai University in Cluj Napoca, together with collaborators from companies and firms in the field (OMV Petrom, SNGN Romgaz, etc.) propose training specialists in energy resources and supporting activities in English will allow, on the one hand, access for candidates from outside Romania, and on the other hand, the acquisition of skills for graduates that will allow them to occupy positions in international companies.
