Bogdan Drugă is an aquatic microbiologist and Director of the Institute of Biological Research in Cluj-Napoca, a branch of INCDSB Bucharest. His research focuses on how climate change affects phytoplankton and aquatic ecosystems, with particular emphasis on the adaptive potential of cyanobacteria and microalgae. He combines laboratory evolution experiments, mesocosm studies, and molecular approaches to understand ecosystem-level consequences of environmental change. He has led several national and international research projects, including ADVANCE, Aquacosm PLUS and ZeoCyan, and collaborates widely with partners across Europe. His work aims to bridge fundamental ecological understanding with applied solutions for managing aquatic systems under global change.
